Vinyl Sales Soared Again in 2021, Thanks To Abba

Vinyl sales soared again in 2021, thanks to Abba

In the year 1991, albums by Abba, Adele, and Ed Sheeran in the UK helped Vinyl sales of five million for the very first time.

Currently this year nearly a quarter of the albums that is 23% were brought on vinyl, With the biggest seller Abba Voyage.

It marks the 14th successive year of growth in 2020 along with the sales up by 8%.

The CD’s sales were constantly dropping, after four years of the format was launched in the market, and just 14 million discs were brought and it was the lowest figure of the year 1988.

However, comparatively, in the few years, the drop of the CD’s sales was reduced, sales were reduced by 12% and comparatively third in the year 2020.

That is due to the artists such as Adele and Abba being counted in old listeners who have yet to choose these formats.

After the year of decline, it is expected that the decreased demands for CDs were Bottoming-out, said by the BPI, from the music industry body.

Shortage of Vinyl –

Despite serious detain in manufacturing, the recovery of vinyl is pursued in the year 2021, may be caused by the growth of the covid-19 cases, labor shortage, and supply chain concerns, and additionally the shortage of raw materials such as paper products and PVC.

One of the reporters criticized Adele for blocking the vinyl plant globally by pre-ordering for her latest 30 albums, but this year, her order of 500,000 records is accounted for only 0.3% of LPs.

Finally, in the end, the album of Adele was beaten by the album of Abba, in September who took the universe by surprise by launching his first album in more than 40 countries of new material.

In the first week of sale, the Titled Voyage was shifted to 29,891 copies following campaigns of extensive pre-order, that provided their fans the early access to “Swede’s” virtual concerts tickets in the upcoming year.

As per the Official Charts Company, this century, Voyage duly has become the fastest seller on vinyl.

Along with representing the music market of a tiny fraction, Cassette sales also raised for a ninth successive year.

The absolute figure for the year 2021 was intended to show that almost 190,000 takes were acquired in the last 120 months and approximately 20% repeating years on year.

Since 2003, it is the most successful year for the format, where presently 54 was the biggest seller on cassette this year.

However, arguably the revival has much more to do with the marketing than any craving for the format.

However, in 2020, the physical formats were dominated by the fame of streaming, which was considered for 80.6% of the music consumption.

Even though, the albums accessible on vinyl and CD’s plays an important role in reaching the artist to the number one position.
