Covid- President of South Africa calls for lifting of Omicron bans travel

President of South Africa, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa has denounced bans on traveling is approved against his country and also in neighbour’s countries due to the appearance of a new coronavirus variant that is Omicron. 

 

Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa addressed, “he was extremely disappointed by the actions, which he reported as invalid and illogical and called for the immediate ban.” 

 

The EU, US, and the UK are those countries that have charged immediate travel bans.

 

The ‘Omicron’ is categorized as ‘variant concern’ and the previously analyzed evidence, this variant has a higher re-infection risk.

 

Earlier in this month in South Africa, the heavily transformed variant was observed and then last Wednesday this news was reported to the World Health Organization (WHO).

 

Over the last two weeks, this variant is the reason behind most of the infections found in Gauteng, one of South Africa’s most occupied territories.

 

Japan on Monday, became the newest country to re-establish the border restrictions more tough and also from 30 November they banned all foreigners from entering their country.

 

The World Health Organization (WHO) has informed the countries to quickly command for travel curbs, they said, all those countries should look at the ‘scientific investigation and risk management. 

 

Although, in recent days numerous bans have been introduced amid concerns about the covid variant.

 

On Sunday, the African Scientist of WHO addressed, “the Omicron variant is presently detected in few regions globally, and resulted in travel bans that target Africa attacks worlds teamwork.”

 

On Sunday, Mr. Ramaphosa said in his speech that there was no scientific reason behind these travel bans, as South Africa was the sufferer of the unfair prejudice.

 

He also disputed that this ban would not be much effective in safeguarding from the spread of this covid variant.

 

He addressed that, the ban on traveling can do only one thing that it can further damage the economy of the country where people are affected by variants, that recovers and subvert their ability to respond to this pandemic.

 

He also called for the countries those who declared bans to “immediately take their decision back…. before it harms our economy by any means.”

 

Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa addressed, “that the appearance of this Omicron variant is a wakeup call for all of us with regard to the imbalance of vaccine, it is the warning before everyone gets vaccinated more covid variants were unavoidable.” 

 

Mr. Ramaphosa requested people to get vaccinated as soon as possible and this is the finest way to fight against the coronavirus. While in South Africa itself, there is no shortage of vaccines seen.

 

On Saturday, the early statement of the South African foreign ministry has blamed this ban on traveling, they said the country was abused instead of being saluted for discovering Omicron.

 

However, presently Omicron has been detected in a few countries worldwide, involving the countries like Germany, UK, Israel, and Australia.
